Illuminate Awards 2018: Kingston Awarded City of the Year

Kingston copped the #Nearshore City of the Year Award at the Nexus Illuminate 2018 Awards. Nearshore Americas. Nearshore City of the Year – Kingston, Jamaica JamproOutsourcing services cannot succeed without the right environment, an environment that enables people to excel in the business, driving success in talent development, real estate site selection, and fair labor regulations. Kingston in Jamaica is the fastest growing city in the Caribbean as it relates to outsourcing. The city is in the midst of a major upward swing, as 5,000 new positions are being created among existing and new BPO players. Kingston has seen over US$22 million spent on real estate in both new construction and refurbishing of existing properties to meet the demand for the industry growth over the last 12 months. Furthermore, the government commitment to the industry has been unwavering, evident in the fact that they have employed a national BPO coordinator, whose main role is to work with Jamaica’s investment promotions agency to ensure that the ecosystem is developed to encourage continuous growth. Accepting the award was our great friend, for many years now, Claude Duncan, Vice President at JAMPRO, the nation’s investment promotions agency. “Jamaica has been working at this for a long time, and we have one of the greatest BPO products in the world,” he said. “We are on a mission to let people know that Jamaica is more than tourism. In the outsourcing space we have doubled the BPO workforce from 15,000 to 31,000 in five years. Companies have come to Jamaica for the talent pool and the trust element – if you can trust your honeymoon to Jamaica, you can trust your customer service to Jamaica.”
